Mother’s Day: What is its origin?

The origin of Mother’s Day is much more distant than many people think. Some people still associate it with consumerism and department stores; however, the tradition is much older than these. Its origin goes back to when the mother figure was paid tribute to as a symbol of life and fertility.
For example, in ancient Greece, festivals were held in honor of the goddess Rhea, considered the mother of all gods. In ancient Rome, a festival was held in honor of the goddess Cybele, considered the mother of the earth.
However, the modern celebration of Mother’s Day began in the 20th century in the United States, when a campaign was launched to create a special day dedicated to mothers. In 1914, the President of the United States officially proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
Since then, the celebration of Mother’s Day has spread to many countries, with dates and traditions unique to each place.

Which flower symbolizes mothers?

All the flowers we have mentioned in this article are appropriate and symbolize the love between mothers and children and other feelings linked to them. Therefore, there is no specific flower that exclusively symbolizes mothers. The choice of a flower as a gift for Mother’s Day depends on the taste of each person and the message you want to convey.

At Verdissimo, you can find many of them, and they are all preserved flowers, so give your mother a lasting memory!

In the fascinating universe of preserved flowers, where beauty intertwines with sustainability, it is crucial to highlight the importance of water on this day. The variety of colors and shapes in our flowers hide an invaluable secret: 70% of the water used in irrigating our crops comes from rainwater. This fact prompts us to reflect on the need to preserve and wisely utilize this vital resource.

The Magic of Preserved Flowers and Environmental Responsibility

Preserved flowers are the embodiment of nature captured in its fullest expression. Unlike fresh flowers, these natural pieces have been carefully treated to maintain their freshness and vitality without the need for water. This process not only allows us to enjoy their splendor for much longer but also emphasizes the importance of adopting sustainable practices in the floral industry.

The Crucial Role of Water in Flower Cultivation

Water is essential in flower production. That’s why it’s crucial to emphasize that the high percentage of water we use for the growth and sustenance of our crops comes from a natural source like rain, underscoring the need to manage this resource responsibly. By adopting techniques for harvesting rainwater, we can reduce dependence on external sources and contribute to the sustainable use of water. This practice not only benefits our environment but also promotes the stability and quality of aquatic ecosystems.

The Importance of Water Conservation in Sustainable Production

On World Water Day, it’s imperative that we reflect on how our individual and business actions can make a difference. In the production of preserved flowers, implementing efficient irrigation systems and water reuse are crucial steps. By embracing sustainable technologies and responsible practices, we not only ensure the quality of our products but also contribute to preserving one of our planet’s most precious resources.

A Lasting Commitment

At Innovaflora (and its brands Verdissimo and Florever), we recognize the importance of caring for water and are committed to sustainable practices. On this World Water Day, we invite everyone to join us in the ongoing effort to preserve and responsibly utilize this vital resource. By choosing preserved flowers, you not only bring the beauty of nature into your home but also support an environmentally respectful approach in the floral industry.

Peonies, with their display of vibrant colors and exquisite forms, are not only a marvel of nature but also carriers of fascinating symbolism and curiosities. In this post, we will delve into the essence of these emblematic flowers and explore their profound meaning in various cultures, from the variety of species such as herbaceous, shrub, to the extraordinary Itoh peonies.

Peony Flower: Origin and Legend

The peony has an origin dating back to ancient Greece, enriching its history with layers of mythology and symbolism. According to the most widespread legend, the peony is named after Paeon (or Paean), a disciple of the Greek god of medicine, Asclepius, in Greek mythology. Paeon was a healing apprentice under Asclepius’ tutelage and is said to have discovered the peony plant and its healing properties. His talent and abilities aroused the jealousy of Asclepius, who, according to some versions of the myth, attempted to kill Paeon out of envy.

To save Paeon from Asclepius’ wrath, other gods intervened and transformed Paeon into the peony flower, thus granting him immortality in the form of this beautiful plant. This transformation not only saved Paeon’s life but also elevated the peony to a mythical status symbolizing the compassion of the gods and immortality.

In addition to this Greek legend, the peony also holds a significant place in Eastern culture and tradition, especially in China, where it is known as the “king’s flower” or “flower of wealth and honor.” In Chinese culture, the peony symbolizes prosperity, beauty, fortune, and noble status. The flower is believed to attract good luck and wealth, making it a constant presence in celebrations and decorations, especially during the Lunar New Year and weddings.

Varieties and Types of Peonies

Peonies are one of the most beloved and spectacular flowers in the garden, known for their lush blooming and sweet fragrance. There are several types, each with unique characteristics that make them special. Below, we will explore the different types of peonies:

Itoh Peony:

Itoh peonies are a hybrid between herbaceous and shrub peonies, combining the resilience and ease of care of the former with the diverse shapes and colors of the latter. How to make a White roses bouquet

We are going to explain in a simple way, how to make a preserved roses bouquet:

White roses bouquet - Verdissimo

  1. Buy the roses. Preserved roses have the same color and beauty as the live species. Our varieties of Standard Rose and Mini Stem Rose are ideal for bouquets. For the perfect pairing, choose some fern leaves. As they are preserved specimens you don’t have to worry about their care, which is limited to cleaning the dust from them and keeping them away from direct sunlight.
  2. Stem cleaning. Although preserved roses usually come prepared, it can be appropriate to clean the stem, removing thorns and protruding leaves. The white preserved roses are cut to equal height with a couple of scissor cuts. Also, clean the fern branches.
  3. Fixing preserved roses. To prevent them from breaking or bending, secure each flower with strong thread or wire. Go through the rose’s calyx and go through the stem as if it were a spiral.
  4. Placement of the everlasting roses. Once the stem is clean and fixed, the roses are gathered one by one following a concentric shape. Be careful not to break the stems, form half a sphere. Tie the bunch with a rubber band or string.
  5. Cover the wire with clean ferns. That way you will prevent the internal hold of the roses from showing.
  6. Bouquet lining. The stems where the bouquet roses are held is covered with a wide ribbon made out of natural fabric, satin, or something similar. Finally, the stems are cut so they are even.

You can make beautiful white preserved roses bouquets in this simple and practical way. With our preserved roses you’ll have the possibility of keeping this composition for a long time without it spoiling, keeping its appearance like the first day.

In Verdissimo you’ll find an immense variety of preserved plants and flowers and a great team of consultants for your interior decoration.
